Massachusetts has been at the forefront of many innovations and ideas that have benefited our country and the planet: new technologies, expansive philosophies, and establishing progressive laws that protect the rights of our citizens. Essentially, Massachusetts has created many “Ideas Worth Spreading” which is TED’s motto. We are proud of our history. Centuries of great people came before us. Many with actions and ideals that shaped not only our towns, but the USA and the world in measurable and immeasurable ways. We take great pride and diligence in restorative projects that maintain our treasured community. What can we, those of us alive today, do that those who come after us will be proud of? What can we set in motion that will positively affect future generations. Every action creates a reaction. TEDxWaldenPond will be a collective action in authentic dialogues with our futures very much in mind.

We are aligning TEDxWaldenPond’s 2012 theme with the TEDPrize Winner: The CIty 2.0 along with other cities around the world.TEDxCity2.0: A day of urban inspirationOctober 13, 2012This year, for the first time ever, the TED Prize went not to an individual, but to an idea on which our planet’s future depends: the City 2.0.For one day only, the TEDx platform will harness the power of people across the globe to encourage them to host a TEDx event themed “City 2.0” event at their favorite local spots, featuring the brightest local minds and biggest hearts. In unison, we’ll share the stories of our beloved homes: where are the bright spots? The creative adaptations? The transformative responses to injustice? Who is asking the most pressing questions? Pioneering the most complex solutions? Speakers can focus on themes including culture, transportation, education, sanitation, recreation – all elements whose presence will dictate the success of our future cities.
